Garage Door Track Repair: Doors That Scrape, Jump or Leave the Rails
Track work from $150 per door and rollers from $120 per set. Our phone line is open 24/7.
A garage door track guides every roller as the door travels. When a track bends, loosens or fills with grit, the door scrapes, jams or leaves the rails. Sweetbay of Wolf Trap straightens or replaces tracks and rollers, starting at $150 per door for track work. Our phone line is open 24/7.

How to Tell a Track Is the Problem
- A scraping or grinding noise as the door travels.
- A roller sitting outside its channel, or one side of the door hanging away from the wall.
- A track that is bent, dented or pulled off the wall.
- A door that looks crooked when closed, or shows a gap on one side.
- A catch or jump at the same spot on every trip.
DASMA says a door that does not go up and down smoothly may be an unsafe condition. Keep your fingers out of the joints between sections; DASMA says many homeowners are hurt that way each year. Use the handles or safe gripping points.
What the Technician Checks, in Order
- Securing the door. We make sure the door cannot move before we touch the track.
- The whole track. Vertical sections, the curve and the horizontal run are checked for bends, dents, loose fasteners and alignment.
- The rollers. Stems, wheels and the hinges they sit in. Amarr’s manual says to scan tracks, rollers and hinges for fraying, rupture and other signs of wear.
- The sections. The event that pushed the door off the rails may have creased a section or stressed a hinge.
- Re-seat and test. We set the door back in the track, run it through its travel and check the balance and the safety reverse.

Older Garages: Check the Track Before You Trust It
Idylwood’s median home was built in 1975, according to ACS 2020–2024 data compiled by MMCG Analytics. In a house of that age the track can be older than the door riding in it, and a replacement door does not always fit an old track. DASMA warns that thickness, weight, headroom and opener location all decide the fit.
So when you ask for a quote on a new door, we look at the track too. For hardware above the door, see spring repair and cable repair. The Idylwood page covers older doors in more detail.
