Garage Door Repair Questions, Answered
Straight answers on prices, safety, visits and the repairs we do most for homes along Route 7.
What does a spring replacement cost here?
Spring replacement starts at $150 per spring, and a lift cable starts at $150 per cable. A technician tests your door first and gives you one exact price before work begins. The pricing page lists every starting figure.
Is the phone really answered at night and on weekends?
Our phone line is open 24/7. If a car is trapped inside or the door will not close, read about emergency garage door repair and call at any hour.
What does the $0 diagnostic mean?
The technician tests the door at your garage and names the part that failed. The diagnostic call costs nothing when you go ahead with the repair. You always hear the exact price before any work starts.
Why did my garage door stop halfway?
A door that quits mid-travel is usually out of balance, and a weak spring is the common reason. A bent track, a slipped cable or an opener that has lost its limit setting can do the same. Start with garage door repair if you cannot tell which.
Should I replace one spring or both?
DASMA, the door industry association, says to replace both springs on a two-spring door, even if only one has broken (see its safety tips). We explain the choice at your garage, and the price is per spring. Details are on the spring repair page.
Can I change a broken spring myself?
We advise against it. DASMA calls springs arguably the most dangerous part of the door and says spring systems should be repaired only by trained professionals. A slip with a wound spring can cause a serious injury.
When should I check that my door reverses?
Test it monthly. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has said since its 1993 opener rule that the reversing feature should be tested monthly. Its 1990 notice describes laying a two-inch wooden block in the door’s path. If the door does not reverse, book opener repair.
Why does my opener hum but the door stays shut?
A humming motor with a motionless door often means the spring has failed and the opener cannot lift the full weight. It can also be a stripped gear or a jammed track. Do not force the door; call us and describe the sound.
Can one damaged panel be replaced?
Often it can, if the maker still sells that section in your model and color. We check on site and quote it by door model and color. See panel replacement.
Do you install new openers and whole doors?
Yes. Read about opener installation and new door installation. Both are priced at your garage so the figure fits your opening.
Which areas do you cover, and how far away are they?
We drive to Wolf Trap, Idylwood and Merrifield. In a straight line they sit about 2.1, 3.1 and 3.7 miles from our Leesburg Pike office. Those are map distances, not drive times.
Can I send a photo of the door with my request?
Yes. The quote form has a photo field. Shoot from across the garage, keep your hands clear of the springs and cables, and leave people and license plates out of the frame. A clear photo helps us bring the right parts.
